NO MORE sent a powerful message during Sunday’s Super Bowl through a 30-second commercial that illustrated how the subtle signs of abuse may manifest in daily communication that is carried out via text. NO MORE, a public awareness campaign designed to engage bystanders around ending domestic violence and sexual assault, partnered with mGage to empower viewers to connect with the cause via text messaging.
Viewers who opt-in to the campaign receive informational text messages including expert-informed tips and resources for how to speak up and support those who may have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault. The texts will also reinforce the message that “you don’t need be an expert to get involved, you just need to be a friend.” The multi-platform campaign also included a longer PSA on YouTube and discussion on NO MORE’s Facebook page.
The rapid response time and high response rate to text messaging were critical factors in selecting mGage as the mobile communications channel for the PSA. According to a 2010 study by mobilesquared, 90 percent of text messages are read within three minutes of being received.
“The Super Bowl PSA was a unique opportunity to reach an extremely large audience of television viewers,” said NO MORE Director, Virginia Witt. “By texting NOMORE to 94543, viewers have the opportunity to receive crucial information about the warning signs of domestic violence. We are grateful to mGage for providing us with a communications platform that allows us this effective reach.”
“Text messaging is a logical extension for public outreach campaigns such as the NO MORE PSA because of its effectiveness in getting recipients to act on received information,” said mGage Chief Executive Officer Jim Continenza. “We’re thrilled that our text messaging services helped so many people to receive valuable information about stopping domestic abuse.”
